We are deeply honoured to share a significant recognition received by TEG at the prestigious National Cleaner Production Awards (NCPC) 2025!
Our continuous efforts toward environmental responsibility have been acknowledged at a high level:
- Growrite Substrates was awarded the Gold Award
- Tropicoir Hettipola earned the Silver Award
Both companies were recognized in the Waste Sector under the Manufacturing – Large Category.
Committing to Cleaner Production
Launched in 2007, the NCPC Awards Programme celebrates Sri Lankan industries that demonstrate a robust commitment to cleaner production and sustainable practices. To be recognized among these pioneers is a source of great encouragement for us at TEG.
Securing these awards, particularly after navigating the detailed and rigorous application process, serves as a meaningful validation of our commitment to operate responsibly. This recognition reflects TEG’s diligent efforts towards resource efficiency and cleaner production, reinforcing our role as a conscientious industry participant dedicated to environmental best practices.
The awards ceremony followed NCPC’s 3rd International Conference on Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy, highlighting our shared industry focus on advancing sustainable practices today.
The Rigour of the Process
The application process involved a wide-ranging, comprehensive assessment of our operational performance and environmental systems. We were evaluated on key indicators, showcasing our dedication across several areas:
- Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) Indicators
- Implementation of Proactive Environment Measures (PEM)
- Environment Management Organizational Structure, Commitment, and Participation in RECP
- System Implementation and Compliance, including adherence to ISO standards
- Environment Performance Assessments
Responsibility in Materials and Circularity
A fundamental aspect of our commitment is optimizing the sustainability and circularity of our products and operations:
- Natural and Biodegradable Core Materials: Our primary material, coco peat and husk, is a natural, completely biodegradable material. It is a value-added resource derived from the waste stream of the coconut industry, which naturally promotes circularity.
- Responsible Sourcing and Recycled Packaging: Our packaging protocols integrate post-consumer recycled materials (e.g., recycled paper, plastics). We carefully select suppliers who are committed to low-carbon footprints and circular economy principles.
o We integrate and promote growbags containing 40% recycled materials.
o All cardboard used is FSC certified and contains post-consumer recycled paper.
o All residual operational waste is systematically sent for recycling.
Investing in Knowledge and Community
TEG firmly believes in the power of knowledge to drive change. We invest in educating our team on environmental stewardship and sustainability, recognizing that the collective understanding of our people is critical to integrating sustainability effectively. Furthermore, TEG actively engages with our communities by conducting sustainability awareness sessions and delivering lectures to schools to educate and inspire future generations.
These honours celebrate the hard work and dedication of the entire TEG team. We remain committed to continuously improving our resource efficiency and environmental responsibility in the years ahead.
